Please join us on May 17th, 2018 at the Pats Peak Banquet Center in Henniker, New Hampshire for our annual CLNH Spring conference. As usual, we will conduct our business meeting, have raffles, food and drinks, and plenty of time for connecting with our colleagues. Wear clothing related to the summer reading theme of “Libraries Rock!” to earn a free raffle ticket!
The focus this year will be developing dynamic collections that strive to represent all of our young readers across the state. Bestselling children’s author and illustrator Grace Lin will be talking to us about “Putting Books to Work.” From her website:
We often hear that “diverse” books just don’t circulate, that kids don’t gravitate towards them. If we take this as true, how do we change that? Grace shows ways you can encourage kids to pick up a book that might not be an obvious mirror and open the door for reading diversely.
Using her experiences as a child, a mother and an author as examples, Grace talks and discusses ways that we can use books as tools to integrate diversity into our kids’ lives.
We will also have a session on “Building a Better Collection,” and finish the day with the Great Stone Face Tea. For the full event schedule, please see the agenda here.
Please note that the KBA showcase for this summer was virtual, and we will be having the next live showcase this fall for summer 2019.
The conference will start at 8:30 and wrap up at 3:30 p.m. Please familiarize yourself with the NHLA conference/class cancellation policy and let us know of any food allergies or considerations you may require.
